Bathroom Basin Taps

There are many different types of bathroom basin taps and choosing a stylish pair of taps can set off a cheap bathroom suite so that it looks every bit as good as an expensive bathroom suite.

Basin taps take many forms, first they can come as a pair or as a single mixer type tap, if you already have your bathroom suite then you will want to check whether your basin has one tap hole or whether it has two tap holes as this will determine whether or not you need to get a single mixer tap or a pair of bathroom basin taps.

Once you know whether you need a single or a pair of taps you can next look at the other options, you can purchase taps which operate in different manners, some have a head which screws up to let the water out and then you screw them back down to shut of the water, these taps may have different types of heads on them, there’s the traditional cross head tap which has a cross shape and is easy to grab then there are the round headed variety which may be slightly more difficult to operate but can look wonderful in the right setting. Others have a leaver which you lift up to release the water and press down to shut the water off and there are also taps with a lever which you turn one way to release the water and another to knock it back off again, these lever taps can be great and easier to operate for people who have trouble using their hands.

The style of your bathroom basin taps should depend on the style of the rest of your bathroom, if you are going for a contemporary look then it stands to reason that you will probably want a contemporary looking set of taps, these days contemporary means chrome often with sharp square lines. For the more traditional bathroom cross head pillar taps will often be the correct choice and depending on the other fittings in the bathroom it may be a good choice to go for a brass finish.

The cost of your taps will depend on the quality, a cheaper pair of taps may be perfectly acceptable but they are unlikely to look as good as an expensive pair and if you want some really modern ones then these will probably be at the more expensive end of the spectrum, it really is worth shopping around though as prices really do vary a lot and you may pick up a nice looking set for a lot les than you think.

Occasionally your bathroom basin taps may make a hammering sound when the tap is only slightly open, this is usually because a tap washer needs changing, whilst it can be quite a simple job, if you have no experience with plumbing it may be best to call in a plumber to do this for you, it shouldn’t take them long and hopefully will not cost too much, again it pays to shop around for a quote.

Remember that you will also need waste fittings for your basin and these may not come with the taps so don’t forget to order these with your supplier also, now you should be armed with some information to go out and purchase a set of taps, hopefully this information has been some help.
